Applied Theology M.A. – Ph.D. (or Th.D.)

Master’s Degree to Doctoral Degree in a Single Combined Program (or Master’s only)

1 Peter 1: 13 urges us to study:

“Therefore, prepare your minds for actions, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace of God…”

This premise is further enhanced in II Timothy 3: 16 – 17:

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”  These teachings make very clear the fact that a life of service begins with a life of learning.  Many churches today are led by self-proclaimed preachers who may know Holy Scripture well but who have little understanding of what it means. The trend is toward teachers without knowledge who think their “calling” is all the credentialing they need.  Strange doctrines are being taught, and the faith of the people is dangerously undernourished. When life crises appear, the people lack the resources to overcome.

When you study at St. James, you are “preparing your mind” for service. You will put your knowledge to use in a powerful way, whether as a minister or priest or a chaplain or counselor. Every pastor must be prepared. See our student comments.

Tuition: $6,500, master’s only or $9,000 through the doctorate, plus the cost of texts self-purchased at discount. This very low tuition, which may be the lowest anywhere, is made possible largely through an all-volunteer faculty and the fact that we are a true ministry. Our faculty is comprised of world-class scholars with down-to-earth experience in their ministerial professions. And they always have time for their students. Mentoring is their favorite activity.  (Below, only the master’s portion is shown.  At the doctoral level, in addition to coursework, candidates complete a dissertation or undertake a unique project that represents an innovative contribution to the field of applied theology.)
